Intensional Contexts and Common Knowledge

چکیده
1, INTRODUCTION Intensional contexts, typical examples of which are complements of attitude report verbs such as believe and know have long received a special attention and almost been benchmark phenomena for natural language(NL) semantic theories since their peculiarities pose problems for any existing semantic theory (especially serious problems for those based upon logical systems such as Montague Semantics). This is solely because these phenomena force us to step into the realm of human minds, which refuse any simple ,application of logical systems per se. The problems that have received serious attentions and many linguists and philosophers have been struggling for, are basically of the following kinds:

Intensional objects
We summarize the interaction between the theory behind intensional programming, as seen in Lucid; and intensional versioning, as seen in Lemur, Intensional HTML, ISE, VMAKE, etc. These two concepts can be seen to be duals of each other, and they rely on dual notions of store, the warehouse for caching values, and the catalog for providing definitions. Catalogs contain intensional objects, which...
متن کاملBuilding Intensional Communities Using Shared Contexts
Intensional communities are composed of intensional programs sharing a common context, implemented using a networked context server, called the AEPD aether process daemon. The programs are written in the ISE intensional imperative scripting language, which is illustrated through versioned assignments in undergraduate classes. Using this model of intensional communities, two examples are develop...
متن کاملAugmented Intensional Reasoning in Knowledge-Based Accounting Systems
A limitation of existing accounting systems is their lack of knowledge sharing and knowledge reuse, which makes the design and implementation of new accounting systems time consuming and expensive. An important requirement for knowledge sharing and reuse is the existence of a common semantic infrastructure. In this article we use McCarthy’s (1982) Resource-Event-Agent (REA) model as a common se...

متن کاملIntensional Programming for Agent Communication
This article investigates the intensional programming paradigm for agent communication by introducing context as a first class object in the intensional programming language Lucid. For the language thus extended, a calculus of contexts and a logic of contexts are provided. The paper gives definitions, syntax, and operators for context, and introduces an operational semantics for evaluating expr...
